VOIC-S (Victims and Others Impacted by Crime –Services)
VOIC-S is a program designed specifically to address the mental health needs of crime victims. MCP collaborates with Minnesota crime victim advocates to increase access to mental health services for victims and others impacted by crime. VOIC-S may include:
Domestic violence
Sexual and physical assault
Homicide
Carjacking
Robbery
Financial Fraud
Cybercrime
Any other violent or non-violent crime
VOIC-S also provides psychotherapy services to others impacted by crime, including, but not limited to, family members of violence and homicide, jury members, and witnesses to crime. Victims and others may suffer various psychological impacts at the time of victimization; resulting anger, anxiety and/or depression; and distress around betrayal by a perpetrator. As a case proceeds through the complex criminal justice system, these feelings may be reignited. Psychotherapy may help a victim or others understand and process their emotions, develop coping strategies, and build resilience skills. VOIC-S therapists utilize trauma informed, evidence-based therapies in helping survivors reduce fear, anxiety, and other symptoms. VOIC-S therapists utilize trauma informed modalities, including, but not limited to Trauma Focused - Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (TF-CBT), Dialectical Behavioral Therapy (DBT), Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing (EMDR), and Solution Focused Therapy (SFT).
Participating Providers:
The first session is an assessment session to discuss and identify specific problems, strengths, and goals, and to determine diagnosis/es (if applicable). The clinician will share recommendations with the client. The beginning of therapy includes the clinician and client working together to create a treatment plan, identify goals, and discuss frequency and anticipated duration of treatment. Sometimes recommendations may be offered for the client to participate in a specific type of therapy.
VOIC-S recognizes initiating therapy, particularly while suffering the impact of a traumatic experiences, can be very challenging. The VOIC-S intake team, administrative staff, and therapists seek to reduce barriers by offering flexibility in payment options, intake procedures, and scheduling. Most types of insurance are accepted, as is private pay. MCP also submits claims to the MN Board of Reparations for eligible payments.
